HVWG announces 2016 short fiction contest winners

Faith Green, chair of the 2016 Hudson Valley Writers Guild Short Fiction Contest, has announced the contest winners. They are “Necessity” by Mary Cuffe Perez (1st Place), “The Master Bedroom” by Richard Gotti (2nd Place) and “Inviting Mabel to Dinner” by Deyva Arthur (3rd Place). There were also three honorable mentions: “Blood in the Soil” by Derek Rose, “The Haunting Season” by Laurie Treacy and “The Wolf, the Girl & the Flat Tire” by Judy Cid.

Thirty-eight writers, mostly from upstate New York, submitted pieces of short fiction which were read and judged by HVWG board members Julie Lomoe, Joe Krausman and Andrea Portnick.

Winners of the contest will be invited to read at the Guild’s annual meeting to be held Sunday, November 13, at the William K. Sanford Town Library, 629 Albany Shaker Road, Colonie, NY. The meeting, which will be held from 2-4 p.m., is free and open to the public.
