It is always amazing to see how many great poetry and spoken word events, readings, open mics, slams, and workshops that we have here in our region. Here is a look at what is coming up in our poetry community…

Sunday, May 15

2:00pm – Stephen A DiBiase Prize Reading
Albany Public Library, 161 Washington Ave., Albany, NY
Winning and final poems from the 2016 Stephen A DiBiase Poetry Prize contest will be read at the Albany Public Library. Featured reader Dawn Marar will be joined by other regional poets: Karen Fabiane, Jackie Craven, Sylvia Barnard, Lucia Cherciu, Howard Kogan, Joe Krausman, Jennifer Circosta, Joel Best, Dan Wilcox, Phil Good, Sally Rhoades, and Mary Panza.

6:00pm – Poetry Night at Bear and Cubs’ Bagel Den
Bear and Cubs’ Bagel Den, 171 Sullivan Street, Wurtsboro, NY
Poetry and spoken word open mic featuring Sullivan County poet Bill Greenfield with special guest host Robert Milby.

 

Monday, May 16

7:00pm – Poetic Vibe

Poetic Vibe is a weekly Poetry Open Mic with featured local and regional poets hosted by D. Colin in downtown Troy.

7:30pm – Front Parlor
The Olde English Pub, 25 Quackenbush Square, Albany, NY
A storytelling night at The Olde English Pub with a different theme each month hosted by Gregor Wynnyczuk.

8:00pm – Club Harmony
Wok ‘N Roll Cafe, 52 Mill Hill Road, Woodstock, NY
A weekly poetry and spoken word open mic series hosted by Michael Platsky with featured poet Roberta Gould.

7:00pm – Emack and Bolio’s Open Mic Night
Emack & Bolio’s, Delaware Ave., Albany, NY
A weekly open mic for music and poetry.

7:00pm – Colonie Tuesday Night Live Poets’ Corner
William K. Sanford Town Library, 629 Albany Shaker Road, Loudonville, NY
ocal poets and writers of all ages are invited to present six to ten minutes of their original work at this open reading forum. The public is encouraged to stop in and listen.

7:00pm – Nitty Gritty Slam
The Low Beat, 335 Central Ave., Albany, NY
Season Five of Nitty Gritty Slam continues with a poetry slam and open mic for spoken word at The Low Beat. Admission is $3.00 before 7:30 / $5.00 after.

8:00pm – Northampton Poetry Slam Team Finals
World War II Club, 50 Conz St., Northampton, MA
Northampton’s only weekly open mic poetry night offers some of the best, most creative voices in the county. Every Tuesday night at 8:00pm. Come down and listen. Come down and share your words. Academic or slam, spoken word or political: Your words are welcome. The competitors for this Finals Slam are Robert Dunning, Sheldon Gaynor, Sarah Hill, Nathalie Irmer, Veda Leone, Jasmin Roberts, Lauren Singer, and Catherine Weiss.

 

Wednesday, May 18

7:30pm – Next Year’s Words, A Reading Forum

Next Year’s Words, the bimonthly readers’ series for writers of poetry, memoir and fiction in New Paltz presents its final program of the 2015-2016 season, featuring Cornelia De Dona, Steven Lewis, and Julie Evans.

Dan Wilcox hosts this open mic for poetry and spoken word featuring poet Mike Jurkovic.

8:00pm – Starving Artist Thursdays
Hudson River Coffee House, 227 Quail Street, Albany, NY
A weekly open Mic for music, poetry, and spoken word at one of Albany’s best new coffee shops.

 

Friday, May 20

8:00pm – Hudson Valley Writers’ Center Open Mic Night
Hudson Valley Writers’ Center, 300 Riverside Drive, Sleepy Hollow, NY
Featured Poets + open mike for poets, fiction writers, essayists with rotating hosts. Located in the restored Philipse Manor railroad station, which is approx. 30 miles north of midtown Manhattan and 2.6 miles north of the Tappan Zee Bridge.

8:00pm – The Parlor Cafe Open Mic
The Parlor Cafe, 303 Ashland Street, North Adams, MA
A weekly open mic each and every Friday at the Parlor Cafe in North Adams for poets, musicians, and artists. Signup at the bar and get ready for the show, starting at 8:00pm.

A monthly Open Poetry Night at Professor Javas on Wolf Road on the third Saturday of each month.

7:00pm – Mudd Poets Poetry Series
Mudd Puddle Cafe, 10 Main Street, New Paltz, NY
Monthly poetry open mic series with a featured readers Karen Corinne Herceg and Christopher P. Gazeent hosted by Robert Milby.
