With the 15th Albany Word Fest right around corner, we have another great week of poetry and spoken word readings, open mics, events, and slams in the area celebrating National Poetry Month. Here is a look at what is coming up in our poetry community this week…

8:00pm – Northampton Poetry Open Mic

Northampton’s only weekly open mic poetry night offers some of the best, most creative voices in the county. Every Tuesday night at 8:00pm. This week’s featured poets are Emily Rose and Ben Clark.

8:00pm – Starving Artist Thursdays

7:30pm – Eden Cafe Open Mic

Read your poetry in a relaxing environment at one of the Capital Regions newest cafes. This is the second event at this location; and more events will be scheduled if there is enough interest and participation.

8:00pm – Hudson Valley Writers’ Center Open Mic Night
Hudson Valley Writers’ Center, 300 Riverside Drive, Sleepy Hollow, NY
Featured Poets + open mike for poets, fiction writers, essayists with rotating hosts. Located in the restored Philipse Manor railroad station, which is approx. 30 miles north of midtown Manhattan and 2.6 miles north of the Tappan Zee Bridge.

10:30am – Visual Poetry Workshop: Asemic Writing
Rensselaerville Library, 1459 Co Rd 351, Rensselaerville, NY
Asemic, or wordless, writing combines elements of visual arts and written language. Participants will begin by writing poetry and go on to create broadsides of their own asemic writing. The workshop will be facilitated by artist Nancy DeNicolo and poet Katrinka Moore.

6:00pm – Open Poetry Night
Professor Javas, 217 Wolf Road, Albany, NY
A monthly Open Poetry Night at Professor Javas on Wolf Road on the third Saturday of each month.

7:00pm – Mudd Poets Poetry Series
Mudd Puddle Cafe, 10 Main Street, New Paltz, NY
Monthly poetry open mic series with a featured reader hosted by Robert Milby.

7:00pm – Poetry in Motion
Proctors, 432 State Street, Schenectady, NY
Poetry in Motion is a unique event that allows all who attend a chance to ride a roller coaster of spoken word. This one of a kind poetic powerhouse is infused with great music and stimulating visual displays. The stage is home to a diverse crowd of poets from all across the country.
