Nitty Gritty Slam #94 – The 2015 Grand Slam

On Tuesday, May 19, everyone will want to be at The Low Beat for the 2015 Grand Slam. The 94th edition of Nitty Gritty Slam will feature 8 poets who have competed all season and left it all on stage to make to this point. The winners of the Grand Slam will be the poets representing Albany and NGS at the National Poetry Slam in Oakland, CA and at many events over the next year all over the region.

The Grand Slam will have an incredibly talented and dynamic group of poets including Kevin Peterson, Amani, Poetyc Visionz, Samson Dikeman, L-Majesty, D. Colin, Daniel Summerhill, and Elizag.

We have had a great fourth season at Nitty Gritty Slam and are very excited to field the team that will be representing our community in the coming months at events in the Capital Region and beyond. We have had so many talented poets and artists get on our stage and we can’t wait to find out who will be joining the elite group of poets who can be called #TeamNittyGritty.

It is never too early to start thinking about how you can help Team Nitty Gritty get to Oakland. If you would like to donate to the team to help cover travel costs, please click “Donate” on the top of the page. We will have more information on fund raising events and more ways to get involved in the coming weeks.

* NOTE – This slam will not be an open slam. Only the above eight poets will be able to slam. The open mic will be for all poets and spoken word artists who want to step up to the mic with a special two poem limit.

If you can’t make it out to the show that night, be sure to follow along on Twitter! We will be live tweeting pictures and results all night at @NittyGrittySlam and #NGS94.

Sign up begins at 7:00pm, open mic starts at 7:30, and then Thom Francis starts the slam at 8:00pm.

Admission is $5.00 ($3.00 with student ID). This is an 18+ show.

Albany Poets, Urban Guerilla Theatre, and The Frequency North Reading Series have brought slam back to Albany with the Nitty Gritty Slam at The Low Beat (335 Central Ave.) on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday’s of each month.
