Nitty Gritty Slam #82 – The First Team Nitty Gritty Semi-Final

Nitty Gritty Slam returns to The Low Beat on Tuesday, November 18 for the first Team Nitty Gritty Semi-Final for Season Four.

This edition of Albany’s poetry slam series will be a special slam with just the top ten points leaders so far in the season competing for a spot in the Grand Slam to be part of Team NGS 2015. The top ten points leaders are L-Majesty (14), Amani (11), Poetyc Visionz (9), Mojavi (8), Samson Dikeman (6), Anna (6), Victorio (5), Brandon Williamson (5), Stephen Roberts (5), and Elizag (5).

This lineup of poets is a great mix of performers who each bring their own style and level of experience to the stage. So far this season we have seen many new poets step up to the mic and slam for the first time and we have welcomed back some of out local, seasoned veterans. We  have even had a couple out-of-towners come and take some points.

This event and the tournament to choose members for the 2015 slam team, to represent Nitty Gritty Slam at the National Poetry Slam in Oakland next August. The top two poets at the end of NGS #82 will then move on to the Grand Slam. Poets who do not make it to the next level of the tournament are invited to participate at the next Open Slam on December 2, 2014 to begin the battle for the second semi-final.

* NOTE – This slam will not be an open slam. Only the top ten poets will be able to slam. The open mic will be for all poets and spoken word artists who want to step up to the mic with a special two poem limit.

If you’re not into competing in the slam, but want to get on stage and share your work, we have an open mic hosted by Kevin Peterson before the slam. Sign up begins at 7:00pm, open mic starts at 7:30, and then Thom Francis starts the slam at 8:00pm. Admission is $5.00 ($3.00 with student ID). This is an 18+ show.

If you can’t make it out to the show that night, be sure to follow along on Twitter –@NittyGrittySlam and #NGS82.
