At this open mic, poets can read three short poems or two longer poems. Also two pages of prose will be acceptable. Light refreshments.

Donations welcomed. Contact Alan Casline at acasline@aol.com for more information..

Funding to support this Reading Series comes from Hudson Valley Writers Guild and Rootdrinker Institute.

Timothy Lake has been reading poetry around the Albany region since 1995. He started writing poetry in 1989 in Plattsburgh, New York.

His poems incorporate personal, mythological, political and whimsical themes . He is a community gardener, urban homesteader, conscientious recycler, not the owner of a car and also a priest and worship leader for his pagan religion.

He has an encyclopedic memory, sort of human search engine, which can be annoying because he is correct. Timothy Lake is a longtime member and supporter of Rootdrinker Institute and has participated in a number of investigative explorations of the Normanskill watershed.

To get you ready for the reading next week, here is a sample of Timothy’s poetry.

White Wolf Running Wild

White wolf running wild in the night
silently through the bracken of a dry slope
passing over a brook stone by stone–
hardly touching– like pixies in a dance.
Shrill lupine call in the glen
calls forth a hundred echoes throughout the primeval wood.

White wolf running wild in the night
illumined by tears of joy, Goddess dropped.
On this Midsummer’s Tide
playing in Her Bosom, he begs for companionship
seeking the promise of connection,
the abandon of the hunt.

White wolf running wild in the night
searching for Hexxen Hunt
and the gathering that is sure to follow
howling a tune of delight
as he majestically prowls
the bright…white…night.

White wolf running wild in the night
Scores of  Nordic “dogs” jump round the flames.
Longboat burning tall as painted men and wolves
dance with the sparks and the lunar flares
in search of some higher knowledge,
some common ground.

After cosmic feast in lost glen of ages gone,
and shooting the Pleiadies with the hunt
white wolf enters the vast void of sleep
a time of spiritual renewal
For tomorrow…he is… once again…
White Wolf running wild in the the night
