The Return of Third Thursday Poetry Night at the Social Justice Center

Third Thursday Poetry Is Back! Poet Austin Houston will read at the Social Justice Center Thursday, January 20, 7:30PM

Poet Austin Houston will read from his work at the Social Justice Center, 33 Central Ave., Albany on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at 7:30PM.  Austin writes, “My Journey is a rollercoaster ride. I try my best to live life one day at a time.” His self-published poetry collection Existence: Chaos in Our Own Backyard came out in January, 2021. He was a featured poet in Poets in the Park in July 2020.

The Third Thursday Poetry Night has been at the Social Justice Center since July 2006, but due to the Corona virus pandemic, as well as needed structural repairs at the Center, the event has not taken place since February 2020. We are pleased to be back once again. The featured poet on February 17 will be Therese Broderick; on March 17 Judith Prest; and on April 21 David Graham.

A reading by a local or regional poet is held each Third Thursday at the Social Justice Center.  The event includes an open mic for audience members to read.  Sign-up starts at 7:00PM, with the reading beginning at 7:30.  The host of the readings is Albany poet and photographer Dan Wilcox.  The suggested donation is $5.00, which helps support this and other poetry programs of the Poetry Motel Foundation, and the work of the Social Justice Center.  For more information about this event contact Dan Wilcox, 518-482-0262; e-mail: dwlcx@earthlink.net.
