Community of Writers
Multi-genre readings by area writers in Albany, Schenectady and Colonie. Co-sponsored by area libraries.
Writing from Art
This annual workshop includes writing, mentoring, discussion of the exhibit, and sharing of work. Past partners include the Albany Institute of History and Art and the Albany City Arts Grant.
Citizens’ reading of “Song of Myself”
In honor of the birthday of poet Walt Whitman, HVWG members join the community in Albany’s Washington Park (at the Robert Burns statue) in reading Whitman’s “Song of Myself.” Co-sponsored by Poetry Motel Foundation.
Poets in the Park
An annual series of poetry readings on Saturday evenings in July in Albany’s Washington Park (at the Robert Burns statue). Co-sponsored by Poetry Motel Foundation.
Writers and publishers networking event. Co-sponsored by the Arts Center of the Capital Region.
Hudson Valley Writers Guild Writing Contest
This annual contest rotates among the genres of poetry, fiction and non-fiction. Cash prizes are awarded. Winners and honorable mentions read their work during a Community of Writers program.
Spotlight Poetry Column
Poems by regional writers from Albany, Schenectady or Saratoga County appear the first Wednesday of the month. Co-sponsored by the Hudson Valley Writers Guild and Spotlight newspapers.
Albany Word Fest
A contingent of HVWG poets participate as a group in this annual event sponsored by Albany Poets in celebration of National Poetry Month.
OASAS Annual Recovery Fine Arts Festival
HVWG provides a group of advisors/judges for an annual festival of the NYS Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services.
HVWG serves as an information clearinghouse for resources, programs and writing groups in the region.
